Simply put, a toiletry kit is a small container used to hold the hygiene products you need when you travel. Toiletry kits go by many names - Dopp kit, travel kit, toiletry bag, body hygiene kit - just to name a few. There’s no need to get all fancy, though - the best toiletry kits keep it simple.
You know what you use every day, so you know what you need to pack. But your toiletry kit is more than just what you dump all your toiletries into. This will be the stuff you’re using every day, so you don’t want to ignore what you keep it in.
With that in mind, here’s what to consider in a toiletry kit:
Pay attention to the size of the toiletry kit. It ought to be small enough to not take up too much room in your bag, but not so small it won’t hold all your toiletries. Have an idea of what toiletries you plan to bring before you choose your kit.
Also, note what style you prefer. Some toiletry kits will have one general “compartment.” Many, however, will have multiple pouches and pockets to keep things organized. Even more than that, you may want a hanging toiletry kit. These include a hook to hang the kit in the bathroom for convenient access, and then roll up to save space when packed.
If you plan to carry your toiletry kit in your carry-on, be mindful of TSA rules and regulations. You’ll want to be able to pre-pack your liquids in a clear quart-size bag (or consider just purchasing those items at your destination). Also, pay attention to the material used inside the kit; if something spills, how difficult will it be to clean up?
