The Stories You Carry

BY Buffalo Jackson Journal
BY Amanda Uher

This month we are proud to share the stories of Buffalo Jackson patrons who carry our leather goods in their daily lives. We believe that our leather goods only get better with age and that each scratch and mark of patina carry the stories of who you are and where you've been. We brought in a group of longtime Buffalo Jackson patrons to hear more about their bags and the stories they carry.

Liz Falkner

Owns a Madison Leather Crossbody Foldover Clutch for 2 years

Liz is a banking executive in Charlotte, NC. She loves to spend time in the North Carolina mountains with her two daughters and working on projects around their home as well.

Q. How do you take time off and relax?

A. Love to get up to the mountains with my daughters, go out to a fun dinner, do a little shopping and check into a nice hotel so that I don't have to feel guilty not working, cleaning the house or making beds or doing laundry

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A.The color and simple style-it goes with everything! I love the different pockets that I can easily put my phone or keys into without having to fumble around. Every mom needs to keep their hands free as much as possible and this is a perfect crossbody.

Wes Mendenhall

Owns a 3 year old Denver Belted Leather Briefcase Bag

As a banker in a professional workplace Wes knows the value of carrying a quality leather bag that speaks to character and values. With Charleston, SC as a home base he and his wife love to travel the country and Jackson Hole, WY claims the top spot on their list.

Q. What’s your favorite family memory?

A. When I first met my wife, right after we met I had to leave for a Cross Country Bicycle trip. I had a 3 day stop in Jackson Hole which was my wife’s favorite place, after 1.5 months of riding I’ll never forget getting into town and getting to see her and spend the next few days exploring Jackson Hole.

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A. The classic look and durability. I’ve received many compliments on it

Jackson Dyrhaug

Owns a 2 year old Roosevelt Duffle Bag

Jackson is a 20 year old marketing student at UNCC who carries our Roosevelt Leather Duffle bag whenever he travels. In his free time he enjoys working with his hands through woodworking and exploring North Carolina through mountain biking and kayaking.

Q. What’s your favorite family memory?

A. My favorite family memory is going to our cabin in Northern Minnesota. Over the summer, we would go almost every weekend with no agenda once we got there. It had a huge difference on me then and has shaped a lot who I am now, I think. My brother and I rode dirt bikes, learned how to shoot guns, start fires, and so much more. It was an uninterrupted time together with my family that laid a foundation for so many memories. There wasn't anything super nice about the house or toys, but that almost makes the memories fonder.

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A. I get excited to travel by car because I know I get to pack in the bag! It has the perfect amount of space to pack for three or four days while not feeling like your bursting at the seems or like you are way under packed. I really like thinking about how I got this bag when I was eighteen but will probably have it when I'm forty; it has taken a beating but still has so much life left in it. I'm only twenty, but when I use it, I swear I feel like I'm this super sage old man.

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

Owns a 3 year old Dakota Weekender Bag and a 2 year old Denver Cooler

You may recognize Micah as a recurring model for Buffalo Jackson and that is because we love his spirit for adventure and being willing to jump into our crazy ideas. He has traveled around the world and landed in Anchorage, Alaska where he lived for many years.

Q. What do you like to do in your free time?

A. Adventure in any capacity, there are no limits. If it’s outdoors and is adventurous, I’m in! Motorcycles on and off-road, hot rods, going fast in general. Reading and research. I have a real thirst for knowledge. I’m also starting to dabble in some gold prospecting.

Q. How do you take time off and relax?

A. I’ve been trying to figure that out for a long time. I like to be active and don’t sit still very well. I might improve my quality of life if I could learn to take time for physical recovery.

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A. Incredible style with rugged quality. My main travel bag, even for week long trips. Most versatile bag. Daily use, small adventures, tablets and laptops, lunchbox, cooler, the list goes on…

 Jill Mabry

Owns a 1 year old Madison Leather Wallet and 2 year old Madison Canvas Crossbody

As a consultant in the medical field Jill lives and works in Charlotte, NC. She loves to spend her free time traveling out west or north to Portland, Maine. She likes to exercise whether it's at the gym or a hike. Traveling is relaxing too!

Q. What’s your favorite family memory?

A. My favorite memory is leaving our grandmother's house late on Christmas Eve for years to caravan up to Blowing Rock, NC just to be able to wake up in the mountains on Christmas Day.

QWhat do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A. I am not a big designer handbag kind of girl and prefer the more rugged, yet stylish, look of the BJTC bags. They fit my personal style and lifestyle.  I also do not change up my bags often, so when I get one, I really use it. That being said, these bags and wallets still look as good today as when I got them - which tells you how durable and well made they are. Last but not least is the leather. I LOVE the leather - the colors, the feel, the quality...the smell. You know it's good leather when it has that "good leather smell"

A. We try to get outside and do day hikes around NC and VA.  My favorite memories are those times where we just get up and decide to go with all three kids and the dog.  Our favorite places to hike are South Mountain, Stone Mountain NC, and Grayson Highlands.

Q. What do you like about your Buffalo Jackson bag?

A. Love the looks, durability, functionality, I love that it stands up without support.  I get a ton of inquiries about the bag.
