How to Measure Yourself
Shopping online, as most of us do nowadays, you’ll want to know your measurements to help ensure a great fit. The sketch below shows where to take measurements to compare to clothing you already own. Keep in mind, however, those measurements will only be helpful if taken correctly. Tip: don’t let the measuring tape hang loose when you’re measuring, but avoid pulling the tape excessively tight. Here’s how to get accurate measurements:
Length: Measure from the bottom of the collar to the waist seam.
Shoulders: Measure between the top of the sleeve seams.
Chest: Measure the entire circumference of your chest. Begin with one end of the measuring tape 1 inch below the armhole at the fullest part of your chest. Then, keeping the tape level, wrap it around (under your armpits, around your shoulder blades, and back to the front) to get the measurement.
Sleeve: Accurately measuring sleeve length is tough to do yourself, so ask someone to help with this. Beginning with one end of the tape at the top of your arm, then down to your wrist. This entire length is your arm-length measurement.
How should a leather jacket fit?
Do the same rules apply to how a jacket should fit as to other jackets or outerwear? Not necessarily. Read on for details.
Leather will stretch over time, so you never want to start with a leather jacket that is too big. But that doesn’t mean you want a jacket that’s too small! It’s also essential to allow room for layers under your leather jacket. Here are a few specific tips for finding a leather jacket that fits just right:
Chest: Leather jackets ought to fit more snugly through the chest than a regular overcoat, but consider the types of layers you may want to wear underneath. If you live in a warm climate and will be layering over light clothing such as a dress shirt or t-shirt, we recommend adding 2-3 inches to your measured chest size. If you live in a colder climate and layering over heavier clothing such as sweaters, we recommend adding 3-4 inches to your chest size. If you land between sizes, we recommend sizing up to the next size available. Tip: you should be able to comfortably zip or button your leather jacket all the way up, even if you plan to wear it open.
Shoulders: Suit coat rules do not apply to leather jackets, so it's okay if the shoulder comes down your arm a few inches. However, even though the leather will give over time if the shoulder seam is higher than your shoulder, the jacket is too small.
Waist: The bottom of your leather jacket should not reach below the bottom of your belt/top of your thigh. This is likely shorter than other overcoats you've owned, but a leather jacket that hangs well below the belt is too big unless you're wearing a long leather trench coat.
Sleeve Length: The proper sleeve length on a leather jacket is consistent with pretty much any jacket: sleeves should end at your wrist.

Thin Liner. Cuff too wide.
"It’s ok. Looks pretty good. Just wish the liner in the sleeves and pockets weren’t thin cheap polyester. Sleeve length is good for riding, but the openings for the sleeve cuffs are way too wide even when zipped up. I’ll need to get this fixed. The leather feels pretty durable. The tag doesn’t say what type of leather was used… just says “Leather”. No leather smell."

Seems nice
"I haven't worn it because I want to apply protectant and conditioner. Being lambskin I did not realize how "fragile" it can be. BJ website was short on information to this effect. Next time I will purchase a tougher leather jacket."
— Glenn L. (5/5)

Great Jacket So Far.
"The whiskey brown is pretty true to the colors shown on the website. It looks almost dark brown in low light but changes to the light whiskey brown in the sunlight. Outside of the neck strap, I find it to be a somewhat conservative jacket that looks good for any occasion. Fit: I'm 5'-9" tall. My weight goes averages around 175, but I have an extra 10 from Xmas on me and the fit was good. Not quite snug, and should be perfect once I work the cookies off. I have broad shoulders and average waist. I usually wear large. Arm length was perfect. Jacket isn't too bulky and should be good in the spring and fall too."

"Great look but size ran small. Returned"

Great leather jacket!
"Our son loved his new Buffalo Jackson leather jacket we gave him for Christmas! It seems to be very well made and is a handsome jacket."
— Tamara L. (5/5)
Overall nice leather jacket
"Nice jacket, thick high quality leather. Fit was pretty perfect. I'm 6'2" and 195lbs athletic build and a large was dead on. My only complaint is there is a black spot (looks like a black ink droplet) on the left shoulder that won't come out. But not worth shipping all the way back for an exchange."
— Greg H. (4/5)

"Clothing better than advertised. Fit perfect and awesome style. High quality and good ship times. Great experience"

Probably not for you if you're tall and slim
"I loved the idea of a Buffalo Jackson jacket - full-grain leather at a reasonable price point and great jacket designs. So much so that on a recent trip to the USA I ordered both a small and a medium, determined to get the perfect size and return the other. I'm 6' 1'' and 160 lb - slim but reasonably toned and not scrawny (at least I would like to think ha). Unfortunately the S was definitely too small in the shoulders, chest, and length of the arms, while it had a good fit for the waist. On the other hand, the medium was way too big around the waist, with a generous amount of space for a gut that I do not (yet) have. The measurements for the waist on their website do note 42'' inches for the medium (for comparison I am a 31'' waist for jeans), and a few other reviews complain about this - it's just a shame that these are the proportions they chose to emphasize. The return process went smoothly (it does cost you the shipping, but Buffalo Jackson are quite transparent about that). In terms of the quality of the jacket, it did seem like thick, good-quality leather compared to a $125 jacket that I previously owned. There were some small faults in the stitching, but maybe that is to be expected at this price-point. I ended up going for a jacket from Schott instead (in their small if anyone is curious). Although it was more than 2x the price, it fit absolutely perfectly and I'm in love with that jacket."
