The Dakota Waxed Canvas Shotgun Case is the field-day version of our Dakota line — built for the hunt, not just the gun room. The body is heavyweight 18 oz waxed cotton canvas, water-resistant out of the box and ready to shed rain, snow, and the morning dew off tall grass. The trim, handles, and adjustable shoulder strap are full-grain vegetable-tanned leather. The interior is sherpa-lined to keep your shotgun's finish scratch-free. Hammered copper rivets reinforce the high-stress points. The zippers are antique brass YKK.
The spacious main compartment fits shotguns up to 50 inches in overall length — pump-action, semi-auto, side-by-side, and over/under all welcome. The exterior front zipper pocket holds shotgun shells, your hunting license, a choke wrench, and whatever else you need to keep close to hand. The all-leather adjustable strap clips on for the long walk back from the blind, includes a sliding shoulder pad for comfort, and clips off when the case goes on the rack.
This is a soft case built for active field use — duck blinds, dove fields, sporting clays, upland hunts, and the truck cab in between. The waxed finish picks up its own patina over time. The leather darkens. The whole case looks better the more you use it.

Is it waterproof?
Water-resistant, not waterproof. The 18 oz waxed canvas sheds rain, snow, and dew, but it's not designed for submersion. Re-wax periodically to maintain water resistance.
What size shotgun does it fit?
Up to 50" overall length. Most pump, semi-auto, side-by-side, and over/under shotguns with 26"–30" barrels fit comfortably.
Will it fit a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500?
Yes. Standard configurations with 26"–28" barrels measure 46"–49" and fit with room to spare.
Will it fit an over/under like a Browning Citori or Beretta 686?
Yes. The 8" height accommodates the dual-barrel profile, and most over/unders with 28"–30" barrels fit comfortably.
Does the case have a pocket for shells?
Yes — an exterior front zipper pocket holds shells, ID, hunting license, and accessories like a choke wrench.
Does the shoulder strap come off?
Yes. The adjustable all-leather strap clips on and off and includes a sliding shoulder pad for long carries.
Is this a hard case suitable for airline travel?
No. This is a soft case for storage, hunting, and vehicle transport. TSA-compliant air travel requires a hard, lockable case.
How heavy is it?

How do I care for waxed canvas?
Wipe down with a damp cloth. Avoid machine washing or detergents. Re-wax with a quality wax canvas dressing periodically to maintain water resistance. Condition the leather trim separately with leather conditioner two to four times a year. See our leather care collection.
