Men’s Grooming Essentials: Travel Tips for the Well-Groomed Man

BY Amanda Uher Insight
BY Amanda Uher

Whether your personal style is rugged or polished, grooming is an essential part of the equation. If you have an established routine for looking your best, what is the best way to translate that routine into something travel-friendly? These tips will help narrow down which men’s grooming essentials should go with you—and the best way to bring them.

Products

The list of men’s grooming essentials for travel is actually quite short:

Floss, Toothbrush, Toothpaste
Deodorant
Shampoo, Conditioner
Razor (use conditioner as shaving cream!)
Comb, Styling Balm
Beard Oil

Unless you are traveling for an extended period of time, there is no need to pack clippers—just take care of that before you go.

Prevention

A small amount of prevention regarding your liquids will be completely worth it. A leak (particularly likely during air travel) can make a mess of the clothes and other contents in your bag, not to mention the wasted product. Here are three simple ways to prevent leakage of your grooming essentials:

Place liquids in small zip-top bags. Snack-size bags are great for this, and if you’re flying, the containers will be small enough to fit in zip-top bags anyway.

Unscrew and remove the container lid. Cover the opening with plastic wrap, and screw the top back on. No leaks! The downside to this method is that it’s difficult to replicate on your return trip—unless you manage to salvage the plastic wrap to re-use it.

Skip the plastic wrap, and use Teflon tape. Wrap the tape around the lid and anywhere that liquid may escape under pressure. Simply remove the tape at your destination, and your products are ready to use. Keep a small roll of tape in your bag so you can repeat the process for your return trip.

Pro Tip

Invest in a quality Dopp kit, and keep it stocked with your grooming essentials. Having a separate set of men’s grooming essentials already loaded in a toiletry kit (separate from your at-home supply) is a solid travel pro tip, especially if you travel frequently.

With a few essentials and a bit of preparation, you’re sure to maintain your style wherever your travels may lead.
